Making the Internationalization of Tsai-Mo a Reality With the Oriental aesthetic at its nucleus, Tsai-Mo Art was born in Asia in the 1990s. Since 1996, the Taiwan Federation of Tsai-Mo Artists has co-hosted with the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taichung the International Tsai-Mo Web Page Exhibition, the International Tsai-Mo Art Appreciation Exhibition, and the International Tsai-Mo Flag Art Exhibition. Taichung was the original location of the International Tsai-Mo Art Exhibit and continues to host this annual event. Tsai-Mo Art exhibitions have traveled to the USA, Canada, Macao, France, and El Salvador. This year, the exhibition travels to France, Poland, the USA, Canada, and Malaysia. Over the past seven years, more than one hundred well-known artists from France, Russia, Germany, Italy, Austria, Portugal, England, Canada, the USA, El Salvador, Argentina, Brazil Japan, Korea, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Pakistan, Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao have participated in International Tsai-Mo painting exhibitions. International Tsai-Mo art exhibitions have become prominent events on the modern international art scene. A vibrant and forward-looking city, Taichung has, for more than a decade, been host to a number of international arts exchange activities. In the 80s, there were the China-Japan, China-Korea, China-Hong Kong, and the China-Macao exchange exhibitions. In the 90s, there were the Asian Artists Invitational Exhibition and the annual International Tsai-Mo painting exhibitions. Now, in the new century, Taichung hosts the International Tsai-Mo Arts Festival. It is abundantly clear that Taichung city’s cultural spirit is vigorous and authentic. With its International Tsai-Mo Art Exhibition and World Traveling Exhibition, Taichung has vastly improved its international visibility and its standing in the international arts community. The goal of mayor Jason Hu is to make Taichung into an “International Arts and Economics City.” His efforts have resulted in the planning of a Gugenheim affiliated museum in Taichung as well as the continued hosting of the International Tsai-Mo Art exhibition. Taichung will in the future continue to support the international growth of Tsai-Mo and its importance to Asian cultural development, and will work toward establishing Taichung as the spiritual home of International Tsai-Mo art.
